Yeah that's a very fair point. Market mechanisms might not be the best mechanism for IP land conservation. It definitely shouldn't be the only one. Historically, overwhelmingly most nature finance is public. There are many other factors to consider in the Global South (e.g. IPs is not a homogenous group, the public sector & legal systems usually aren't as established in such regions (i.e. more corruption) & more). Ideally IP funding happens directly, often without even local public authorities in these regions. Drea Burbank from Savimbo is doing some specific work on direct IP funding right now.
